The Lab opened its 2025 season for Adelaide Fringe with an awe-inspiring outfit, Indian-based ‘Elsewhere in India’ consisting of Sri Rama Murthy (aka) Murthovic and Avinash Kumar (aka Thiruda) joined by homegrown favourite Parvyn Kaur Signh. Thiruda the Creative Director of Antariksha Studio, builds video games for Indian heritage. In Elsewhere in India, Thiruda has created the amalgamation of 3D video game imagery and AI-generated art with an anthology of futuristic engaging stories, deep diving into questions of culture and ethics of AI that instantly captivated the audience in the image-wrapped room.   Murthovic has been a sound practitioner and electronic music composer for over two decades; Murthovic's composed soaring melodies and deep bass and techno rhythms are accompanied by vocals from special guest Parvyn Kaur Singh, a well-known Australian vocalist as the frontwoman of the cult psychedelic band The Bombay Royale and her debut solo record 'Sa' was nominated for the 2022 ARIA 'Best World Music' Album of the Year. Enveloped by The Lab’s well-known sound and lighting scapes, this performance is a surprising delight; this trio delivers a tight-knit, polished performance, and you are taken through a journey of digital storytelling, Together, the artists weave intricate melodies and songs with soaring beats, pulling from traditional Indian culture and possibilities of the future. The underlying artwork engages the audience with a discourse on the perspectives on ethics and AI; the time and energy that the artists put into the delivery of development and research of the imagery is clear. The audience is invited to follow the storyline of Meenakshi, explored by Parvyn as lead vocalist, a cultural cyborg designed to preserve Indian heritage and foster harmony through traditional Indian performing arts.   This was not just a music performance, it was an immersive story, a dance party, a show to think about, a deep dive into culture and ethics, and an eruptive performance.
