Starting the night asking “Adelaide! How are you feeling tonight!” By the end of the night everyone was feeling… Simply the Best! Prinnie Stevens loves Adelaide Fringe and this year she brought her show Simply The Best of TINA TURNER to the iconic Woodville Town Hall. With her five piece band and two back up vocalists, this was a night of live music, live vocals, the quickest of costume changes and a bit of a shimmy shimmy Tina Turner style.
Prinnie Stevens doesn’t imitate instead turning other artist’s songs into her own keeping true to the essence and soul when she sings them. Showing the way with her previous Fringe shows, Lady Sings the Blues and Lady Sings the Blues Vol 2 it was continued with this new show.
Tina Turner was a force. A champion of crashing barrier after barrier thrown at her leaving us a catalogue of hits that will remain in our hearts forever. Stevens has a similar force, singing Turner’s songs with conviction and soul. When she sang, she felt it and in turn the audience felt it too.
The show celebrates the triumph career of Turner with all the favourites. Whether singing the gospel Amazing Grace or the classic Proud Mary, Stevens easily transitions from sweet and soulful to rock and ready. Hits included were I Can’t Stand the Rain, Lets Stick Together, What’s Love Got to Do With It, River Deep Mountain High, Simply the Best and more. There was also a tribute at the end to Roberta Flack who passed away last wee, where Stevens paid tribute with a heartfelt Killing Me Softly .
Narrating life stories of Turner in-between songs, while adding in her own personal connections and memories; Stevens showcased not only engaging storytelling but her powerhouse vocals with passion and charisma. Singing, dancing and teasing the audience with each note she loved performing for us and in turn the audience radiated the love back.
