It is easy to see why YOAH has returned to Adelaide as a Fringe favourite. The neon-hued wonderscape,
where stunning choreography, circus arts and technology come together to break the mould of circus-
works past, left its capacity audience breathless.

Directed by World Juggling Champion, Yusaku Mochizuki, YOAH uses a fusion of upbeat and ambient
instrumental and electronic compositions to create an often dark but intoxicating atmosphere whilst
performers (through aerial, dance and juggling chapters) tell a story of the importance of curiosity and
playfulness.

While the talent was immeasurable: from Strut and Fret’s Sultan of Cloud Swing, Kyle Fowler to Peking Opera-versed Yuya Takatori with his gravity-defying chair routine – one of the highlights had to be the mesmerising strength of aerial silk and gymnastics maverick, Tsumugi Masui, whose enchanting choreography and impressive flexibility held the room in captive silence.

Another crowd favourite – the impossible mapping diablo routines by Mochizuki and master juggler
Tomohiro Morita which were enhanced by exhilarating music and stunning projections. Acts that require
immense concentration and precision but were delivered with so much warmth and joy that it was
impossible not to adore them.

Circus may have evolved rapidly over the years, but YOAH takes it to new heights with its integration of
Japanese tradition and hospitality, incredible athleticism and world class technology presented in a
Kubrick-like film noir setting.

I couldn’t recommend this experience highly enough!
