Tonight!: A clown who wanted to be loved
Written and performed by Andrea Barello, Tonight! is a beautiful and joyous performance piece that warms the heart.
Barello brings is a clown in the European style, at once silly and poignant.
Absurd actions are played with full sincerity so well that the audience follows with glee.
As the piece progresses, Barello involves audience members into his narrative with great effect. He has the ability to properly convey a wide range of emotions clearly whilst not alienating or discomforting his volunteers.
Suitable for all ages, his storytelling is so complete he elicits delightful giggles from even the youngest in the audience and has a profound effect on them as he delivers his message.
Barello binds that audience together quite literally at the start of the piece, and as it concludes and he releases them, he tells his story with words. Having been virtually silent for the most part this change brings an even deeper level of experience for the people crowded in the small tent.
The vulnerability and mistakes made in the human experience are on display, his emotional narrative encouraging the viewer to not only ride along but look inside themselves for meaning.
Tonight! Is easily relatable to the conflicts we as humans feel each day in trying to find our “people”, the clown, as always, holds a mirror to the world.
