Adelaide True Crime Walking Tour
12 March 2025

Whilst it was a small group attending, this tour on a beautiful sunny Adelaide day was intriguing.  My thoughts in booking the tour and with some knowledge of Adelaide’s reputation for unusual crime made this for me, an interesting and different fringe event.

We met Dave (full name not disclosed) at the front of the Griffins Head Hotel, Hindmarsh Square.  With our water bottles packed, sand shoes and shorts to combat the warm day, we were soon off on what was a very easy paced tour of Adelaide true crime locations.  Commencing near Rundle Mall, Dave provided an easy to understand but comprehensive summary of some of Adelaide’s heinous crimes.  The 1970’s to 1990’s were a time in Adelaide where strange and macabre incidents took place.  There have not really been any incidents like them since the 1990’s.

Without giving it all away, there were references to Margaret Tobin’s murder, the Hambly- Clarke gun shop shooting, Miller and Worrell, Von Einem, Snowtown and more.

Our host Dave was masterful at providing a summary of each case as we walked by locations where actual murders took place.  Dave was well researched and engaged well with the group providing photographs relating to each incident.  As a guide Dave was an excellent orator who ensured that there were appropriate breaks and plenty of shade.  He made the tour personal and soaked up some of the experience of tour participants that had some law enforcement background.  Dave has a pedigree as an international correspondent for the ABC and SBS and covered significant international incidents such as the disappearance of MH370 and the nuclear disaster in Japan in 2011.

Some of the smaller shows at Adelaide Fringe can be missed by both reviewers and the fringe going public.  This walking tour, if sponsored by SA Tourism, could become a permanent fixture in Adelaide.  Whilst there is so much to do and see in South Australia, The Adelaide True Crime Walking tour deserves a place as a recommended activity. The tour delves into some grisly murders but is always respectful to the victims who should be remembered and not forgotten.

The tour is over for now with Dave promising to bring this and other shows back to Adelaide in the future.

The Adelaide True Crime Walking Tour would appeal to audiences young and old.  Information was accurate and chilling at times but easy to understand due to the delivery and personality of the articulate, affable and well researched host.
