The Gov, a renowned spot in South Australia for hosting great bands, underwent a fascinating transformation this night. The usual stage for rock and roll was replaced with a seductive, red-lit platform, the air filled with the anticipation of a sizzling Burlesque production.

What I found particularly captivating was the setting. The audience was seated at tables, creating an intimate atmosphere that transported us to Montmartre’s allure, where the Moulin Rouge’s spirit was palpable.

The host was an alluring and gifted performer, adept at drawing out our innermost and often neglected psyche. She ensured she caught the eye of audience members, making her performance a profoundly personal experience for each of us.

The show highlights the Adelaide Fringe Ethos of inclusion and arts for all. It was my first experience watching a male burlesque performer, and he did not disappoint. His performance alone is reason enough to buy a ticket and attend this show. I was captivated by the beauty and intimacy of watching him strut in heels I couldn’t have worn even in my younger years; his confidence made his performance sensual.

Those sitting at the front tables were fortunate to receive a gift from a scantily clad maven. I can’t tell you what it was; you need to go yourself to find out. I’m not giving away all their secrets.

The young gentleman who stumbled into this, I want to say, Den of Debauchery; however, that phrase brings negative connotations. Instead, it’s a House of Hedonism; he had the unique opportunity to look deep inside himself with the guidance of some outstanding entertainers. How he goes about doing that, well, I can’t say.

I understood the underlying message the show was aiming at the audience: every human has the ability, no, the right to explore their sexuality. You’ll be able to find out how the show shows this.

Just know that when you attend Creatures of the Underworld, you are attending so much more than a Burlesque show; you’re attending an awakening, and that’s ok.
