Award-winning creators Strut and Fret have delivered another vibrant and dynamic production, with the new and improved Limbo – The Return.
Sxip Shirley, an avant-garde composer and performer along with musicians Grant Arthur and Mick Stuart provided an electrifying soundtrack that filled the performing space. The bass tones of the giant tuba felt like a heartbeat. The music added an intensity to an already exciting production.
Talented artists Maria Moncheva, Mikael Bres, Hilton Denis, David Marco, Ben Loader and Clara Fable performed mesmerising circus feats. Aerial acrobatics drew gasps from an attentive audience, as did saucy choreography. Scantily clad performers flirted with the crowd as they tapped and tumbled their way from routine to routine. Aerial stunts used with ropes and chains, highlighted strength and Fable did not disappoint as she lit fires and extinguished them with her mouth. Clever use of light and mirrors and cracking of whips were just some of the creative talents on display.
The whole evening had an old-worldly Parisian flavour. The dulcet tones of Fable were intoxicating and sultry. The standout for me involved 3 cast members strapped to tall posts bending backwards and forwards with the manipulation of their bodies; showering the audience with thousands of white feathers as they rocked back and forth gave the illusion of snow falling.
This is not your average circus! Strut and Fret are known for pushing the boundaries of genres and this latest instalment is no different; part cabaret, musical, circus and dance, means there is something to arouse everyone.
