What. A. Flippin. Hoot. This show is a worthy celebration of queer joy; Millicent ‘Mim’ Sarre, Jemma Allen and Rosie Russell might be thoroughly unable to sit on chairs properly but boy, can they bust out a theme tune. Frank, fearless and funny, sure there’s just a hint of second-year-drama-school-work-as-a-team-to-workshop-a-performance-based-on-your-life about the place, but that’s no bad thing. The three of them are just so god damn endearing together, and that’s before the tap break changes their status to god tier.
The premise is simple: take a bisexual trope or issue, explain it (sometimes just a little too didactically), bust out a song, dance or rap, end segment with theme tune (which is so catchy you’ll be humming it all week). Along the way they tackle the ugliness of the bi flag (necessary), vaginismus, fitting in to the queer community, and why bi-women are attracted to feminine-presenting men. Kevin McCloud makes an appearance, as does a German techno rap. It’s a wild ride and hat tip to the gang, because the pace does not die down for one second. Big and bold, it’s also provocative and clever. Queer joy, yes, but queer joy with something to say about the state of the world and bisexual people’s place in it. In other words, watch out biphobes because the Bisexual Intellectuals are going to laugh you into submission. And the best thing? You’re probably going to enjoy it.
