They say it takes at least ten thousand hours to hone your craft and Gravity and Other Myths have certainly perfected theirs. The Adelaide based circus company are once again presenting their show Ten Thousand Hours to the Adelaide Fringe at Gluttony. Combined with the elements of circus acrobatics and physical theatre this is an hour of mesmerising feats of the human kind.

They run, jump, slip and slide, flip and fly, twist and turn all with the simplest of ease and intense strength of balance. While they make it look so effortless; it’s definitely not. Timing is so important and these eight amazing athletes have done their ten thousand hours and it shows!

Balancing three people high, swinging and flying with precision and grace it really needs to be seen. It’s raw, personal as well as cheeky and playful as they all rely on each other for safety and strength without the fancy costumes or bells and whistles. Each acrobat is the star that shines bright in their own right.

While there’s eight elite acrobats, we mustn’t forget the talented musician drumming away and supplying the soundtrack to each suspense filled action. At one point the audience had the opportunity to shout out a style or theme of how one of the acrobats should perform and he drums away the request. On this night one of those was hip-hop (and yes there was an appearance of that infamous kangaroo move from the Olympics).

They say its “A love letter to our bodies. An invitation to watch us work.” It was such a privilege to watch. Some have suggested I give this a 6 out 5. If I could I’d give it a 10! I recommend you run, jump, slip and slide, flip and fly, twist and turn and GRAB YA TIX to this show before it sells out!
