They/Hehe is Han Arbuthnott’s second solo hour, and is sure to confirm their spot on the ‘ones to watch’ list. They’re just so flipping engaging, one of those comedians who make it look easy, with a gentle, warm delivery and laid-back pace that belies the cleverness of the writing and its many slow-burners.
They/Hehe muses on identity, first dates, relationships, dogs, family history and snake bites; the minutiae of life is all milled for a quietly controlled hour. There are a couple of crackers in there (absolutely no spoilers, because you deserve the very real pleasure of hearing them straight from the horse’s mouth) but safe to say that Arbuthnott is sure to be growing out of Rhino Room’s tiny Alley Cat soon. There’s also something sweetly wholesome about their schtick; you imagine they were the kid that got away with anything because the teachers always believed them. That’s a lovely quality in a comedian and this will make you laugh, make you think and maybe even melt some of the cold, dark corners of your heart with a little bit of Queer joy.
Han Arbuthnott: They/He, Rhino Room, until 1 March, 9.30pm.
