Charlee Watt is one dynamic vocalist and performer. Her current Fringe offering, Beating Up The Beatles, is the perfect way to spend an hour during this busy Fringe season.
Whether you are a lover of The Beatles music or simply a lover of great music, this show has something for you. Charlee has found some wonderful reimagined arrangements of a cross section of the extensive Beatles catalogue.
Opening with The Beatles 1964 hit Can’t Buy Me Love, Charlee’s incredible voice filled Plant 4 Bowden. She has this sultry jazz tone that fills your soul with warmth. Between numbers Charlee weaved a light-hearted script about life experiences and finding love. She did appear to be rather nervous the afternoon I attended, but she really has nothing to be nervous about. When she sings, her confidence oozes off the stage, her voice transports you to another place and you get pulled into her musical storytelling.
Charlee is supported by an exceptional band who handle the various musical styles with grace and ease. The band, Jordan Noble (saxophone), Andrew Casey (keys), Declan Horan (bass), and Lewis Todd (drums), lay the perfect foundation for Charlee to vocally play.
There are only a few more chances to see Beating Up The Beatles at this year’s Fringe. Do what you can to squeeze in one of these shows — you won’t be disappointed. Keep an eye out for the name Charlee Watt because I am most certain that we are going to see some great things from this exceptional young artist in the not too distant future.
