I will admit, I walked into An Evening Without Kate Bush knowing very little about Kate Bush. I know what you’re thinking, and yes, I am one of those people that discovered Kate Bush when Stranger Things released Season 4 and Running Up That Hill climbed back up the charts. Do I think that scene of Max levitating with her headphones on and having flashbacks of memories with Lucas is both creepy and iconic – absolutely, it’s one of my favourite TV moments of all time! This was as far as my knowledge went, but enough for me to head into the Le Cascadeur tent assuming that it was going to be a little eery and haunting…

As much as I was right – it was quite unearthly and bizarre – to my surprise the star of the show, Sarah-Louise Young, was THE most beautiful soul with the voice of an ANGEL. I was truly captivated by her loving nature and personal interactions with the audience. She fully accepted the fact that some of us were clueless about Kate Bush and just there for a good time. There were also some die-hard fans or self-identifying ‘fish people’ as they call themselves, amongst the crowd.

Select audience members were invited on stage to sing and dance alongside Sarah. I must say, it was really gorgeous to watch. Sarah-Louise Young is quite possibly the most eccentric, English cabaret performer I’ve ever come across, and I’ve come across some very extraordinary English people in my time. She made everyone feel included, welcomed and special… Not to mention, she was seriously whitty and had some great one liners.

Aside from her beautiful free-spirited nature, her voice was fantastic. My partner and I turned to each other to question if she was lip-syncing, when in fact it was just her flawless vocals that filled the tent leaving us all in awe and admiration.

I’m calling it… An Evening Without Kate Bush takes the crown for the best vocal performance at The Garden of Unearthly Delights this year.

I walked in without a clue what was going on, and left feeling like I was part of a new community. This show is not only for Kate Bush fans, but for all. Go grab your tickets with an open mind and release your inner Bush.
