Aura was absolute dream of a show. With performer after performer of so called “emerging artists” showcasing that the future is very bright for Burlesque in South Australia.

Aura emerging artists was curated by @lylah.bloom based on responses to the theme “embracing the power and beauty that resides within us all, challenging norms, breaking barriers and boldly expressing sensuality and strength on stage” . The performances were all mind blowing and made me question if the artists had been appropriately cast in emerging artists show. The way that each artist owned the stage felt like they had been there for years.

Each of the artists took the theme into a different direction and genre but maintained an incredibly high standard which was great for the audience. We got to see everything from slow poignant aerials to don’t mess with me rock chick. Definitely keeps it interesting.

The whole show was at a very high level but the stand outs were @athena_darling_draglesque & @etherealjade.performer .

@athena_darling_draglesque is really going from strength to strength. They  choreographed a piece about their struggles with coming out as non binary and oh my gosh. The connection to the themes and development of concepts showed a maturity well beyond her years. I am very much looking forward to telling people I knew Athena way back when.

@etherealjade.performer was all about power. She sung because depriving the audience of that voice would have been the real tragedy… before a commanding  burlesque routine to a hard rock song that had my girl crush meter set to extreme.

The only thing confusing about Aura Emerging Artists is calling these amazing human Emerging Artists. Every artist, every performance I saw was at a level I would expect from a seasoned performer.

Aura was an absolutely brilliant show and if this is the future of Burlesque in Adelaide it’s going to be very Bright!

Aura Emerging Artists was a One Night Only Show however you can see more from @lylahbloomproductions emerging artists troupe at the Bloom Luna Revue on the 19th 21st & 23rd of March. Thoroughly recommend you do.
