The world premiere of this new comedy magic show was created by its two mystical Taiwanese performers, Mu-Syuan Chang and Tu Strange.
Filled with laughs and illusions, Duel and Dual finds two champion magicians battling it out to see who is best.
Chang lands his second sensational visit to the Adelaide Fringe with grace and refinement. His magic incorporates movement, dance, and a sense of serenity. He is stylish, confident and a master of his craft. His floating crystal ball is just one of many highlights across a number of acts.
Strange, named so because he considers his magic to be strange, is the comedian of the duo. He interacts with the audience significantly and is riotously funny in his antics and magic. As with Chang, he is a skilled magician, but he also knows how to milk a joke and keep the audience laughing. To pinpoint a highlight is difficult but without a doubt, his most impressive trick was to get the audience to clean up his mess!
The performers alternate their time on stage, which keeps the highs and lows of the tempo bouncing along nicely. The elegant tranquillity of Chang is a welcome breather from Strange’s high energy, and vice versa.
Language is not a barrier for either performer because there is barely any dialogue despite the ample audience participation.
As expected, the climax sees the duo on stage together to show off their technical talents, and the concluding bow is one worth taking.
Xiè xiè (thank you) for a magical evening.
