Looking for something out of this world to entertain your little ones at the Fringe? The folks at Highwire Entertainment might just have what you’re after. Far from their more cabaret-centric productions, they’ve crafted a more kid-focused program in Mission To The Moon, an educational show that blends circus, acrobatics and space science.
With the real-life Artemis mission from NASA on the horizon, now is a great time to get the younger generations thinking about space travel and the science that allows us to walk on the moon. And that’s what the loveable trio of astronauts guiding the show plan to do. With a collection of colourful props, the trio illustrate how rockets fly into orbit and how things function in zero gravity.
It’s a cute and engaging show that kept many of the little ones in the crowd entertained. There’s lots of laughter in the physical comedy, and science has been distilled into simplified yet accessible snippets of information to satisfy curious minds. There are a lot of interesting facts about the moon and life as an astronaut that will make the young science fans happy. The three leads themselves are charming and engage with their young crowd with ample physical skill and comic timing. There's a big focus on juggling and partner acrobatics as the circus arts of choice, and the three-way juggling pin trick was a definite crowd-pleaser.
This is a show aimed at a pretty young audience, so its appeal might be limited to kids under 10. It might not be as big or bombastic as some of the big ticket family shows Gluttony has to offer, but it’s easy kid-friendly fun and the smaller venue makes it a good pick for children who may be susceptible to overstimulation. A fun, educational and super wholesome performance that will delight young science fans and parents looking for some great family entertainment.
