The Box was originally built as a music venue/event hub for Melbourne festival in 2013. Designed and built by Blue Bottle, this structure is uniquely designed with acoustics and aesthetics in mind. Acquired by The Garden in 2017, it’s been a staple venue for bands, comedy and cabaret. It’s burnt timber exterior comes from the traditional Japanese method of timber preservation shou sugi ban. This practice uses fire to char the timber to protect against environmental elements such as UV.
