Just when you think you’ve been everywhere in South Australia, the Fringe opens up a whole new world of unique, unusual, historic and otherwise un-accessible Adelaide locations for you to enjoy.

From house museums containing millions in exquisite antiquities to the historic (and haunted) Adelaide Gaol, plus bbq grill schools where your taste buds are sure to be delighted - there are plenty of amazing and unconventional spots to experience during this year’s Fringe.

As the gates close and darkness falls across West Terrace Cemetery, this iconic effigy to Adelaide’s past residents takes on different ambiance. With only the soft glow of your lantern to light the way, and the eerie shadows of the monuments looming at every step, here’s the place for an intriguing journey through good and evil, passion and reason, and the vices and virtues that are part of the human condition.

Live the stories in amongst the headstones of West Terrace Cemetery.

Who else knew about Adelaide’s various raid venues? We certainly didn’t but we’re keen to now explore them!

The Glenelg Air-Raid Shelter was built in 1942 as part of a WWII communications network. It now houses exhibitions and memorabilia which tell the stories of Holdfast Bay and its residents during the various wars including WWII. Access to many of this shelter is via a steep flight of stairs.

The Prospect Air Raid Shelter was built in 1942 and used during the war from 1942 to 1945 and is unique in having a blast wall on its northern and western sides.

The plan of centres, housed within shelters, shows provision for telephonists, message clerks, liaison officers, messengers, casualty liaison and fire liaison.

The David Roche Foundation House Museum opens its magnificent North Adelaide gallery where you can enjoy the arts within its unsurpassed elegance.

The Foundation was established in 1999 by the late Mr David J Roche so everyone could enjoy his exceptional collection of antiques, paintings and objets d’art, accumulated by him over his lifetime (mainly from Europe) and to be preserved for future generations.

David’s beautiful Australian Federation villa, Fermoy House, was purchased in 1954, was remodelled the front to make it more ‘Georgian’ in appearance. The added ‘Roman’ room is filled with delightful life-size sculptures and large antiquities. The interiors evolved over the decades and the rooms reflect how David lived and used them.

Enjoy one of the “hottest” foodie spots in Adelaide where performers will be cooking up a storm! 

In a new purpose-built barbecue space, and the first Weber Grill Academy in Australia, you can enjoy a recipe of performance and cooking. All produce used here is sourced locally, and you can take in the breathtaking views of the city of Adelaide over the parkland.

Sit back and relax as you gaze into space at the Adelaide Planetarium. Journey across the universe and marvel at projections of the Sun, Moon, planets and about 5000 stars in the Planetarium’s iconic dome-shaped artificial night sky, without leaving the comfort of your seat. Be careful not to lose yourself as the projections simulate the Earth’s rotation and sends you on a voyage through outer space!

The Planetarium is a great place to learn about our Solar System and the universe. Explore new wonders through live performance within the immersive space.

All aboard the Popeye for a party cruise along the Torrens River!

Embarking from the Elder Park landing, float on as the sun sets to sublime entertainment provided by Adelaide's finest DJs and performers. 

Soak in the natural splendour and spectacular views that Karrawirra Parri and the surrounding riverbank precinct has to offer whilst sipping on some of your favourite local beverages.

Spend a night at the Museum! Release your inner child during an adults-only evening at the South Australian Museum. Be incarcerated in Australia's longest continuously operating gaol.

Discover the ghost of Governor Ashton, whose body was dropped through a window, Sister Mary MacKillop's link with the Gaol and the spirit of South Australia's most sadistic killer still stalking his prey. With 45 hangings and a burial site in Murderer's Row, it's no surprise more than 12 spirits haunt the 147 year old building.

This quirky, iconic and historical pancake parlour has been in every Adelaidians heart since it opened back in 1965, bringing Adelaide a quirky and captivating dining experience, which still remains today.

Devour a delicious meal of burgers, fries, wings and, of course, their famous hot, fluffy pancakes stacked on top of each other and topped with anything and everything you could possibly imagine before enjoying a Fringe show.

Adelaide Railway Station Precinct takes centre stage this Fringe with pop up performances as you step off your train into the heart of the action.
