Insights from a University of Adelaide Alumna & Artist - Part 4
Wed, Jul 12 2023
Welcome to blog number four! As we have reached the end of the financial year, let's delve into the future of Adelaide's arts and culture scene. But before we jump into it, I want to express my gratitude for those who have been following along. Your support means the world to me, and I hope you’re gaining valuable insight!
As a singer, vocal coach and mentor, my passion lies in nurturing aspiring artists and vocalists. I find great joy and purpose in helping them navigate the intricacies of ambitious repertoire, vocal health and guiding them in developing their values and beliefs as artists. Each and every one of my students fills my heart with pride, and their growth and progress are truly limitless! I'm fortunate to work in a supportive, inclusive, and uplifting environment that allows me to make a positive impact on their lives.
Let’s shift our focus to envisioning the future of Adelaide's arts and culture scene. While I don't claim to have all the answers, I'm more than happy to share my thoughts!
I believe that the upcoming generation of aspiring artists are incredibly intelligent. With the advancements in technology and accessibility to resources, the future of ✨the arts✨ industry holds vast opportunities. The combination of AI and online platforms is transforming the way artists learn and connect with their audience. These changes will make the industry more accessible to everyone, breaking down barriers and creating new avenues for artistic expression.
Now, let's talk about Adelaide's uniqueness and why it is worth exploring in comparison to larger cities like Melbourne or Sydney. Despite being the runt of many jokes, Adelaide holds a special place in my heart. It has a charm that sets it apart from the busy metropolitan areas. One of the greatest advantages of living in Adelaide is the quality of life it offers. Unlike the crowded and oversaturated cities, Adelaide provides a sense of a big country town where you can reach most places within 20 minutes. This gives artists and creatives precious time that can be devoted to honing their craft, exploring new avenues, developing themselves personally and professionally, and fostering meaningful connections with loved ones. Time is a valuable resource, and by living in Adelaide, we gain an edge in utilizing it effectively.
So, why Adelaide? Besides being the birthplace of pop star Sia (albeit she left) and home to iconic landmarks like the "malls balls" (okay maybe not iconic but it sorta is…), Adelaide is also the host of the second-largest fringe festival in the world, the Adelaide Fringe. This festival brings together artists and performers from all over the globe, showcasing the diverse and rich cultural artistry of the city. Adelaide goes off in Mad March, and if you are yet to experience the buzz of the fringe festival, I highly recommend you come next year - you might just meet me!
Life is constantly ever changing, so I can’t give a definitive answer as to what I envision for the future of Adelaide’s arts and culture scene. What I do hope for, is that the arts community continue to support, nurture, and grow the next generation of creatives from a place of love, passion, and respect.
